Master Bedroom Refresh~

This post is sponsored by Rug Studio.

Hello Lovelies!

Today I'm excited to share my Master Bedroom Refresh with you.

For me, any room redo usually starts with a single item.  In this case, a rug...this rug...

I was contacted by Rug Studio to see if I would be willing to review one of their rugs.  And since I had been wanting to add one to my Master Bedroom, I jumped at the chance.  It took me a while to find the perfect rug because their site is huge, and their selection is amazing.  But I finally settled on this beauty, the Safavieh Heritage Rug in Beige and Grey with its subtle blues and soft greys.

So that jump started the room refresh.  Here's a little reminder of what my room looked like last Christmas (since that is the most recent photo I have of the space.)  It makes me giggle, because I cropped the photo in super close since the rest of my room was basically un-decorated.

You can see, however, that the bed is in front of a wall...the wall opposite the windows.  I had been toying with the idea of moving the bed in front of the windows for a long time.  The windows are located opposite the room entrance, and I really prefer to walk into a bedroom and have the bed be the focal point.  But I was afraid that putting the bed in front of the windows wouldn't look quite right, and that it would darken the space.

The new rug gave me fresh perspective and the courage to try something different.  So I moved the bed in front of the windows.

It gives the room a much grander feeling which took me happily by surprise.  And the light is the same as before...which also took me happily by surprise.

I used a pair of curtains that I already had, and re-used my current bedding...although I did take the pillows off my living room couch to add the perfect pop of blue.  I'm in the market for some new bedding, but for now, these are working perfectly.

I am really happy with the changes I've made to the space...it's amazing what a little inspiration can do!

Thank you to Rug Studio for the beautiful rug I was given in exchange for this post.  The opinions expressed in the post are 100% mine.

Red, White, and Blue~

Hello Lovelies!

Thank you for all your feedback on my previous post.  I'm really excited to take The Shabby Nest in a bit of a new direction.  So....

Welcome to the first real-life, affordable fashion post of my "re-invented" blog.

I thought it would be fun to start with some Fourth of July fashion...here are the looks that my daughter and I put together for our Independence Day festivities.

The white and blue are obvious...five points to the first person to figure out where the red is...

Blue checked top and dark-wash jeans are both from Old Navy.   Shoes from Groopdealz.

Top from Target (a few years ago).  Shorts from Target this year.

The pleat detail on the back of this shirt is my favorite.

The dainty stars on this shirt are echoed by the petite star necklace.  Subtle but patriotic!

Did you figure out where the red is....my hair!! Lol!! (My daughter's joke.)

We're going to see a movie, swim and go to a neighborhood party.  What are your plans for the holiday?

Have a lovely July 4th!

So Where Do I Go From Here~

Hello Lovelies!

It's been a while.

I'm not sure how many people I even have left reading The Shabby Nest since I haven't been giving it the attention it deserves for quite a while.  But I sure hope there are some of you still out there because I'm looking for some input.

I have been thinking a lot about the blog.  And I'm not ready to throw in the towel on it.
But, I'm also not sure what direction to take it.

I am an interior designer.  I LOVE DESIGN!  But it has been really hard for me to keep up on the type of amazing projects that all the wonderful design blogs out there are posting.  I get the projects done...but since I became a single mom...I churn them out a lot more slowly than I used to. Lol!

So I can't give up writing about design.

But I also love fashion.  I graduated with a degree in Fashion Merchandising (Just like Elle Woods! Any Legally Blonde fans out there?).  And my love for fashion has never diminished.  I have done fashion posts here and there along my blogging journey, but never really focused on them.

I considered starting a separate fashion blog...about fashion for families...but the idea of starting a blog from scratch seemed like more than I can handle right now.

So here's my idea.  And here's where I want input.

I'm thinking of making The Shabby Nest more of a lifestyle blog.  I'm hoping to add fashion and beauty into the mix along with design.

What are you thoughts?  I'd sure like to hear. Pretty please with sugar on it. ;)

Kitchen Cabinet Painting: To DIY or Not To DIY~

Hello Lovelies!

I wanted to follow up on my kitchen redo by talking about painting kitchen cabinets.

One Room Challenge - The Kitchen Reveal~

Hello Lovelies!

It's the final week of the One Room Challenge and I'm so excited to reveal my kitchen
makeover today!

As you may recall, this is how my kitchen looked BEFORE...

Ever since I bought Hydeaway Cottage 2 years ago, I've wanted to paint the kitchen cabinets and  to add a back splash.  And I couldn't be happier with how it turned out...

I kept the same granite.  Replacing it was definitely not in the budget, and since it has a lot of gray in it, I knew it work beautifully.

I feel like the best decision I made was to extend the back splash all the way to the ceiling on
the sink wall.

I also really love the pop of color that is offered by the new rug.

  • The paint on the cabinets is a paint match to the white that was already painted on the island
  • The backplash is Calacatta marble
  • The rug is the Catriona Rug from Joss and Main
  • The granite is Verde Tunas
  • The bar stools are from Walmart (yes, really)

One Room Challenge: Week 5~

Hello Lovelies!

It's week 5 of the One Room Challenge!

I'm excited that the big reveal is getting so close!  I can hardly wait until next week, so I can show you the changes in my kitchen!

This week has been a week of dramatic progress.  The cabinets are being painted!  You'll have to forgive the grainy iPhone photo below...the changes are happening quickly, and I had to hurry and snap a photo of the primed cabinets when I got home from work.  Even though they're just primed in this photo, the difference is amazing!

The rug arrived and is currently laying in the living room "uncurling".  It's even prettier than I expected and the color is going to look lovely in the kitchen.

The cabinets will be finished Friday, and I'll be photographing the kitchen this weekend.  Make sure you join me next week to see the finished product!
